NOAA releases statement on Dorian forecast, NWS Birmingham tweet

ALL WEEK LONG, THE PRESIDENT HAS
DEFENDED HIS STATEMENT THAT
HURRICANE DORIAN COULD IMPACT
ALABAMA. SHERI: ACCORDING TO ONE FEDERAL
AGENCY, THE PRESIDENT WASN’T
WRONG WHEN HE TWEETED SUNDAY
MORNING THAT DORIAN MIGHT HIT
ALABAMA. GUY: SUNDAY, THE PRESIDENT
TWEETED AREAS LIKE FLORIDA, THE
CAROLINAS, GEORGIA AND ALABAMA
WOULD BE HIT BY THE STORM. MOMENTS LATER, THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE SAID ON TWITTER,
“ALABAMA WILL NOT SEE ANY
IMPACTS FROM DORIAN,” ADDING
“THE SYSTEM WILL REMAIN TOO FAR
EAST.” NOAA COMING BEHIND DEFENDING THE
PRESIDENT, SAYING AT THE TIME
AN ALABAMA IMPACT WAS A
POSSIBILITY. NOAA SAYS SUNDAY’S TWEET FROM
THE NATIONAL SERVICE SPOKE IN
ABSOLUTE TERMS THAT WERE
INCONSISTENT WITH ITS FORECAST
MODELS. METEOROLOGIST ADRIAN CASTELLANO
JOINS US TONIGHT. LOT OF CONFUSION TONIGHT. SHERI: CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE
MODELS AND HOW THERE COULD BE
CONFUSION? ADRIAN: SIMPLY PUT, WHETHER
GRAPHICS ARE CONFUSING TO THE
AVERAGE PERSON. I’M SURE YOU HAVE SEEN THIS MAP
ALL OVER TWITTER THE LAST FEW
DAYS. YOU MAY THINK THAT THIS IS A
FORECAST TRACK BUT THAT IS NOT
CORRECT. THIS IS NOT A FORECAST TRACK. THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER
DOES ISSUE AN OFFICIAL FORECAST
TRACK. THIS SHOWS THE PROBABILITY OF
SEEING WIND SPEEDS IN ANY AREA. THIS IS NOT TALKING HURRICANE
FORCE WINDS. THIS IS JUST TALKING TROPICAL
STORM FORCE WINDS. THERE ARE COUPLE OF ADVISORIES
THAT SHOWS THE PROBABILITIES
INCHING INTO EXTREME SOUTHEAST
ALABAMA. THOSE ODDS CORRESPONDING TO THE
DARK GREEN COLORS ANYWHERE
BETWEEN 5% AND 10%. A CHANGE THERE COULD BE SOME
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS IN
SOUTHEAST ALABAMA. THOSE COLORS NEVER REALLY REACH
CENTRAL ALABAMA. THAT IS WHY WE WERE NEVER
ANTICIPATING ANY HURRICANE
EFFECTS IN CENTRAL ALABAMA AND
ATTRACTED CONFIRM THE STORM DID
MISS US TO THE EAST. WITH THE STORE MISSING US TO THE
EAST, WE WILL TALK M

  1. Just the latest batte in Trump's War on Reality… also, go look up who heads NOAA and who their Director of Communications is. This is insulting to our intelligence and almost as blatant as someone DRAWING ON A MAP WITH A SHARPIE.

  2. "PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS 100% CORRECT AND THE F-A-K-E NEWS IS WRONG!! HE WAS TOLD THAT THE EARLIEST ESTIMATED PATHS, SHOW IF DORIAN CONTINUED THROUGH FLORIDA CERTAINLY ALABAMA WOULD HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AS ORIGINALLY PROJECTED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE" THE CHART SHOWS A CLEAR PATH TOWARD THE LOWER END OF ALABAMA, ONCE THIS 300 MILE WIDE STORM PASSES FLORIDA AS EARLIER PROJECTED.
